A Parting!
He was keenly aware
She did not care,
Whatever his response would be,
Her future did not lie with him;
He had known for some time
Away from him she drifted;
She did not know
That he knew!
Awake all night he lay,
Till early break of day;
Pondering what he should do,
To be the best for both;
Much as he’d love to keep her,
That would be mere illusion;
To keep his treasured self-regard,
He’ll yield to her decision.
